The creation of the Yoorrooyang Dawang regional parks is a result of the Ord Final Agreement between the Miriuwung and Gajerrong peoples and the State. According to the Ord Final Agreement, the six new conservation areas will be held under freehold title on trust for the Miriuwung and Gajerrong peoples and leased back to the State.



They will be managed by the Yoorrooyang Dawang Regional Parks Council as conservation parks under the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984 in accordance with the joint management agreement between the MG Corporation and the Department of Environment and Conservation.


The Yoorrooyang Dawang Regional Parks comprise of the following parks:

  • Goomig Conservation Park (14 164ha)
  • Barrbem Conservation Park (14 327ha)
  • Ngamoowalem Conservation Park (70 310ha)
  • West Mijing Conservation Park (25 529ha)
  • Jemandi-Winingim Conservation Park (29 120ha)
  • Darram Conservation Park (896 ha)


The six Trainee Miriuwung Gajerrong Rangers are responsible for the day to day management of these parks. These duties include fire management, control of feral animals and weeds, fauna surveying as well as managing high visitation recreation areas. As well as being responsible for the day to day management of the parks the trainee rangers are also working towards achieving their Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management.
