The 2011 WSTP comprised a series of inter-related programs and activities. The objective was to address a broad range of personal development and work readiness objectives for indigenous adults.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) were called from training providers with the aim to engage with organisations that could provide innovative ways to add value to existing programs, or fill gaps in local service delivery.

Organisations with experience in service delivery for an indigenous client-base were asked to submit a proposal outlining program options that may include but not be limited to the following:

  • General personal development / social support
  • Literacy / numeracy support
  • Employment expectations and general career counselling
  • Employer requirement awareness (including site visits to potential employers)
  • Drug / alcohol counselling and support if needed, complementary to or utilising local service providers
  • Money management, complementary to or utilising local service provider programs
  • Household management skills development, complementary to or utilising local service provided programs
  • Any necessary physical or mental health assessments, complementary to or utilising local service provider programs
  • Practical, hands-on skills / confidence development projects
  • Drivers licence preparation activities
  • Participant-driven projects where possible (e.g. identification, planning and delivery of hands-on projects)
  • A combination of on-site and off-site activities for participant engagement
  • Social activities / functions, developing skills obtained through other aspects of the program

Over 100 local indigenous people signed up for the free program which ran from February to May this year.

The outcomes of the program are currently under evaluation.
